What revelation feels like

Today, while walking back from small group, I looked up. It's a clear night tonight, and over the grassy area between the bridge and my house, there's enough distance from street lights to get a good look at the sky. I love looking at the stars when I can. And while craning my neck upwards it occurred to me - all of those stars are unimaginably enormous globes of heat and light, bubbling and exploding and sending huge, violent outbursts of energy into space.

I knew that already. But it just sank in that little bit more tonight, when I least expected it. I spent a few minutes just standing there, looking up with a great big grin on my face. If someone walked by they would have probably thought I was drunk.

I love it when that happens. You can know something for a long time, then one day it just hits you, and you get blown away by the enormity of it all. And it doesn't just happen once, it happens again and again, and because the whole thing is beyond my mind's ability to fully comprehend, the size and scale of it all, I keep coming back to that wonder. It will never get old or tired, because I'll never fully grasp it. And that's amazing.

It's one thing to know something. It's another thing to realise it.
