Anime preview first impressions part 2

The continuation of my previous post.

Pumpkin Scissors
After a huge, devastating war, a ceasefire is announced, and the Eastern empire is left to pick up the pieces. It seemed like a fairly good setting to base an anime. In fact, this was the only preview episode I couldn't watch all the way through. The main character here seems to be a loud, brash, over-confident lieutenant of a war relief force, who gets tingly feelings on te back of her neck when something bad happens, and goes all shy and blushy when she runs into a war veteran. She annoyed me so much that I stopped watching. It might not have been helped by the dub. Either way, unless someone recommends this to me as something worth watching, I probably won't bother.

Kurau Phantom Memory
The first episode of this one was lovely, but slightly bemusing. First, the story was a touching tale about a father whose 10-year-old daughter Kurau's body gets taken over by an alien consciousness which gives her superhuman abilities, but is his daughter still there inside? I thought the relationship between the father and the child would be the focus, but then we skipped forward ten years, to when Kurau is working as an 'agent', a sort of spy mercenary, using her abilities secretly to do her work with amazing efficiency. But the alien consciousness is missing its partner, which lies dormant within her. I thought then that the focus would be on Kurua's life here, and her work, but no, it changes once more at the end when the dormant alien being wakes up, and I'm guessing that this is the ultimate focus of the anime. Apart from being surprised at these sudden changes, I did enjoy this episode, even though it seemed just to be a setup for the rest of the series. it does seem like it'll be a sweet sci-fi sort of thing, which I'd be interested in seeing more of, even though I feel like the story hasn't really started yet.

Le Chevalier d'Eon
For some reason, the episode I got here was episode two, so I started watching it and straight away thought 'eh what why is this guy possessed by his sister?' but anyway... This is a bit like the Three Musketeers with a fantasy/horror twist. It's set in France, and follows the story of the man of the title, Chevalier d'Eon, as he tries to investigate the cause of his sister's death, while his sister's spirit, looking for revenge, sometimes takes over his body and kills people against his will. There also appear to be zombie-like creatures called gargoyles cropping up, and evil people with mysterious spells they call Psalms. This looks like it could be pretty interesting, though I'd like to start at the beginning... We've got what seems to be a core group of four musketeer types that all have the potential to be pretty cool characters. The story is obviously still only just starting out, but there's shadowy conspiracy-type figures floating around, and I like that sort of thing.

So yeah, that was a bit of a random foray into anime, which I overall quite enjoyed and definitely stuck one or two more things on my ever-growing to-watch list...
